Multilanguage
The whole portal www.adulteducation.at is multilanguage-capable and can - in theory - provide an unlimited number of languages.
The first parameter in the url can specify a language and on the startpage one can select various different languages and on each subpage one can switch between german and english.
The number of these languages is easily extendable. So the user can select a language in the frontend.
There are different types of multilanguage on this page.
multilingual navigation
The Navigation through all modules is completely multilingual. Internally all navigation is stored as alt_text, small_text or pre_text or images and the corresponding template-functions (get_imgp,get_alt,get_small and get_pre) are fully aware of the selected language.
If a new navigation-element is added, then it must be put to the correct place in german and in all wanted translations.
The navigation is never searchable and not seen as content in a strict understanding.
multilingual content unaware of selected language
Content is usually independet of the selected language. A user who selected the english navigation nevertheless may be interested in german content. So the content usually is independent of the selected language.
If we want to put some multilanguage content online, we just add one entry for german entry and another entry for the english entry. These are independent entries and the search find both entries.
If we want to relate i.e. german and english content, so if the user sees the german version, the other versions are also offered, we can add a special solution as in textarchiv. ie. http://www.adulteducation.at/de/literatur/textarchiv/418/
multilingual content aware of the selected language
sometimes we want content, that is aware of the selected language. That means if the user is in english version of frontend, he will see different content than if he is in german version.
This brings some logical conclusions, cause suddenly content is not clearly identify anymore to the search. If the user is in german interface, he might search for “education” and find a document that contains the word in english version, but not in german. If he clicks the searchresult he will not find the word in the result until he changes the interface-language.
