If you use windows, go on reading this. Its a bit easier under windows than under linux, but not much (suprisingly :) After activating infrared on my mobile and putting near my winXP machine with sp2, windows automatically recognized the mobile as "standard modem over IR-link" and I could choose this modem when setting up the dialup-connection i) GSM - only 9.6kbit dialup-number : 0650 7873638 username : telering password : 1012 ii) GPRS - much faster under modem-properties (only available when the mobile is connected) you need to set a extended initialization-command in the extended-tab : AT+CGDCONT=1,,"WEB" Then you setup the dial-connection. dialup-number: *99***1# username : web@telering.at password : web In the mobile itself you need a gprs-connection activated (In my case its also first in the list) as the following: name : tele.ring wb gprs-accesspoint : web The connection itself is established in no time (<1sec) and the net-latency is between 600 and 800ms. bandwith is 30-40kbit/sec which is a bit less than I expected. serial : 345 If you found any nonsense in this entry or want to see important improvements, I would appreatiate to receive your comments at knowledge@goldfisch.at disclaimer : all these entries are part of my very private knowledgebase that I created while solving problems.
