connect to internet with linux and nokia5140 and telering keywords : telering internet web wap gprs gsm laptop mobile linux infrared infrarot I use OpenSuse 10.0 and things went fairly easy. First I needed to figure out on which serial port my ir was listening. In Yast2 I went to network-devices -> modems -> ADD and I could choose between ttyS0, ttyS1 .. ttyS3 and there was a "TEST"-button. I started with ttyS1 and test didn not show anything. Same with ttyS2. Then I choosed ttyS0 and test revealed the name of my mobile. GOOD. Of course I could also have looked in the bios-setup and in the startup-logs. Then I checked that ircomm0 was the new irda-device by typing irdadump /dev/ircomm0 and again I got the name of my modem (among many other lines :) Then I finished modem-setup by limiting bandwith with 115720 (or something like this) and added the following as first initialation-string: AT+CGDCONT=1,,"WEB" I left the second string untouched. and then I only had to add : dialup-number: *99***1# username : web@telering.at password : web and I choosed to start the connection manually and used kinternet to fire it up and it worked the first time. Also look at KB-345 for doing the same under WinXP and a bit more details about the settings in the modem. serial : 346 If you found any nonsense in this entry or want to see important improvements, I would appreatiate to receive your comments at knowledge@goldfisch.at disclaimer : all these entries are part of my very private knowledgebase that I created while solving problems.
