  extract winmail.dat

keywords : winmail.dat extract

winmail.dat seems to be some internal microsoft-mail-format that occasionally appears in my mailbox, when the sender was a moron or something went wrong between a microsoft-mailserver and a good mailserver.

If you are sure that its not spam/virus whatever, but an important attachment then you can use ktnef under linux (a kde-tools that should come with the pim-module)

or you use a simple tool for windows to extract the content:

fentun - and its freeware and it works from win95 up to winXP

http://www.fentun.com/

to use it, just drag the winmail.dat-file on the fentun-icon. Dont try the obvious and just open fenton, cause it only opens when something is dragged to it.
