  vmware server : keyboard problems

keywords : keyboard vmware server ubuntu keyboard cursor not work

On some of my ubuntu-clients the vmware-client seems to have the wrong keyboard-mapping when connecting to vmware-server. I observed this with 7.10, 8.04, 8.10 and now 9.04 but not on all of this machines. Mainly laptops seems to be affected.

Cursor-keys do not work, page up/down and the delete-key

solution:

as user that runs the vmware-client (or the firefox plugin) peform the following:

$ setxkbmap
$ echo "xkeymap.nokeycodeMap = true" >> ~/.vmware/config

dont forget to restart the console then.

All of this can be found at http://www.linuxscrew.com/2008/12/19/vmware-server-console-keyboard-problem-in-ubuntu-intrepid-ibex/

all credits for this solution therefor belongs to the author of this page and not to me. I just did copy/past
