Hinges for Acer Aspire

“Bildschirm-Scharniere (Hinges) für den den Acer Aspire”

The right hinge for my Acer Aspire 2020 broker within extenden warranty. I had it shipped to acer and it was fixed. A few month later - when the warranty was over the hinge broke again and I had to discover that acer-repair hadnt exchanged it but only used glue (!!!) to put it back together. A few days later the left hing broke too.

Acer could not tell me how much a repair would cost and two official acer-partners had to tell me that the replacement hinges are not available any more.

Looking up google I found myriads of people with the same problem : broken hinges and not replacement-parts available.

The only source seems to be some chinese ebay-traders that ship a pair of hinges for ~60€. For its the only source I had it shipped to me and got em within 10days and then I just had to replace them:

And this was ... easy :) I didnt take pictures here to demonstrate but I just removed the pieces or rubber that are found bottom-right and bottom-left and cover two screws. Then I openend the screws and with a small flat-screwdriver I removed the whole cover. And then I openend lot more screws until I had the hinges and the long attached rails free. There I was stucked for a while cause I couldnt figure out how to seperate the broken hinges from the rails but I just used heavy tools and force and just put them out and the new ones back in. and Then I reassambled the whole things and now I can use my laptop again without needing a staple of books to hold my display. Thats great.

And - sorry guys - acer sucks. Fixing broken stuff with glue is just not the way I like things fixed by a professional. Next round of laptops in my customers office its Dell again and Acer is gone.
